For those of you that follow me on Instagram or Facebook, you may have noticed the newest member of my camera family, you also have probably noticed the newest addition to our real family as well. 😉 My uncle had this beauty hidden away in a closet, along with a dozen rolls of film that have been around as long as I’ve been around. Yes, I did test one of those out and we’ll see this week how that turned out. Yes, Rob did also tell me I was crazy for using thirty year old film, but did I tell him he’s crazy for having a thirty year old wife? No, I did not. I continued my test roll and proceeded to drop it off to get processed. Do I hope that the images turn out, yes. Yes I do, but if that roll of black and white film doesn’t turn out, I did invest in a roll of color film and I have one more shot to take before I can drop that off, cross my fingers and pray that the camera is working. I have no idea how long it was hidden away, but the Mamiya C3 was manufactured in the ’60s and it’s a heavy little beast that seems to be doing just fine.
Why am I telling you this? I promise there is a reason.
I love film. Love it. I have all my old 35mm film packed away in binders. Oh, yes I am that person. I love the way it looks, I love the way my old Nikon FA handles. Deep breath. I’m going to start bringing film with me to shoots. There I said it. I love the look of film, digital is good, but it cannot compare with a true roll of film. So I’ve decided that I’m going to start bringing my old FA, or the N80, with me on engagement sessions with a roll of black and white. Crazy happy dance. This is something I’ve wanted to do for a while (years, but there was this man who thought it was weird-I’ve since beat Rob into knowing my way is the right way) and I’m super stoked to start doing something a little different. This means it may take just a little while longer for me to get the engagement session back, but oh how much fun we are going to have! I don’t think I’ll be bringing the Mamiya, that camera is heavy! But who knows, in time anything is possible.
I know that I keep rambling on, if you get me on the phone it works the same, I just can’t stop talking. Now, if only I can find an old Fuji Frontier 2500 Scanner…
